Dalhousie - LeMarchant Street Mixed Use Facility
December 14, 2011
Work on a new $36-million residence for Dalhousie University is expected to begin shortly. The Dalhousie board of governors have voted to approve the construction of the building at the corner of South and LeMarchant streets, next to the Memorial Arena. The arena would be demolished due to concerns regarding the increase in snow load from the new building.
The proposed project would be a seven-story building, housing 326 students and student services, built to LEED-Gold standards. VMPA have designed an entrance walkway along the LeMarchant Street and a new park on the corner of South St and LeMarchant. Demolition of existing buildings on the properties to make room for the new residence is underway. The building is hoped to be completed by the summer of 2013.
